It’s no surprise that Hublot is supporting the Bol d’Or Mirabaud. The Official Timekeeper of the event since last year (a key year as the race celebrated its 75th anniversary), Hublot is especially proud and delighted to be associated once again this year with the most important lake regatta in the world, which has the bonus of being organised “at home”, in the west of Switzerland.
2014? 76 Bol d’Or Mirabaud regattas, 76 numbered watches, no more. After last year’s tidal wave of interest, where demand far outstripped supply, as the Official Timekeeper, Hublot is honoured and privileged to once more unveil the Official race watch. This year’s model is the height of elegance, yet it retains the sporty chic so dear to Hublot.
Here is a brief outline of its key features: a fusion of titanium, carbon fibre and rubber, the Classic Fusion Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2014 is a chronograph watch made from titanium, a material which is lightweight, shockproof and extremely resistant to corrosion, featuring a carbon fibre dial and bezel, which lends it a high-tech sporty look ever-popular amongst crews. A strap, which is also made from carbon fibre sewn onto black rubber, completes the piece.
What’s new for this year? Two sunburst counters and saddle stitching on the strap in magnificent deep midnight blue mirroring the waters of Lake Geneva, which perfectly complements the titanium and carbon fibre. Only 76 numbered watches will be produced, featuring “76ème édition BOL D’OR Mirabaud” engraved on the back.
Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, made the following statement: “Hublot has always been close to the world of sailing and the sea, firstly through its very name (“Hublot” means “porthole”) and the shape of its watches, but also through prestigious partnerships such as the one with the Monaco Oceanographic Museum and its Institute, or with the Marina de Porto Cervo. So, what could be more fitting than to support the greatest sailing competition in Switzerland? Sailing, water, sport, sportsmanship and fantastic entertainment…. all the values of the Bol regatta are shared by Hublot, and what’s more, its right on our doorstep”.
What is the Bol d’Or? It is the world’s premier inland lake regatta. It is also a huge nautical festival, bringing together almost 600 yachts on the waters of Lake Geneva. Amateurs and professionals, including champions from all over Europe, meet on the starting line in Geneva harbour. Over 3000 sailors, thousands of spectators lining the banks, a truly stunning start, an exemplary Organisation Committee and a hundred volunteers, this is the competition that has it all, from the most cutting-edge innovations in nautical research to an open, friendly atmosphere.
It stands as testament to the values of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud, which have always been shared by Hublot. A respectful nod to the great traditions combined with a firm focus on the future: this manifesto clearly reflects Hublot’s policy, linking water and land, tradition and innovation, wood and high-tech materials, time and space. A fusion of all elements, all technologies….
